2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug In Hybrid is a future model of this popular mid-size crossover. This car is an answer to the high grow in the crossover market. Mitsubishi designers wanted to keep its all season and off-road abilities and to combined them with carlike fuel efficiency and dimensions.
This car was developed from Mitsubishi ASX concept vehicle that was presented on 2001 north American Auto Show. Its production version was released during the same year in Japan and sold in Mitsubishi dealership called Car Plaza. First model came with a different nameplate, it was called Mitsubishi Airtrek. Outlander name came after the generation switch in 2005. Plug In Hybrid version’s popularity grew significantly in last few years. In 2014 it was the best selling Plug-In electric car in Europe, while in the world it helds a runner up position behind Nissan Leaf.
Plug In Hybrid version of Nissan Outlander is now only sold In Europe and Japan, while the American premiere is scheduled for the end of 2015. European market version was already presented on Paris Motor Show during this year. New model is important also because it is presenting the changes you will be able to see on the new Outlander, which is going to have its mid-generation update for 2016 model year.
2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug In Hybrid Design and Changes
One of the biggest changes is in this model’s exterior styling, more precisely in its front fascia. Grille-free nose of the last year’s model is replaced with slatted grille and lower air inlet, together with wrapped headlights. Mitsubishi planed to add some sportiness to its new model, since Highlander was defined by online reviewers as one of the most blunt looking crossovers on the market. Its new grill has some resemblance to the one we consider to be the classic Lexus ”spindell grille”, although Mitsubishi designers said that it was made that way to go well with their popular three diamond badge.
2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug In Hybrid interior design also came with some changes. Black woodgrain is added, together with silver accents on the dash and hand stitched leather upholstery on the seats. This model comes with pure excellence when it comes to craftsmanship and materials inside the cabin, which leads to improved level of comfort.
Under the Hood
When it comes to performance, not a lot of things changed. This vehicle still comes with Concept 5 hybrid system. It comes with a 2,0 liter four cylinder, that comes paired with an electric motor. Rear axle comes with another electric motor and the whole system is charged by the 12 kWh lithium ion battery. Like any other hybrid vehicle Outlander has several different drive modes. One of those is all electric, and it can also drive in four wheel drive mode.
